Orchid of the Year & Species of the Year*

Phragmipedium caudatum ‘Jacqui’s Dream’ AM/OCNZ (88.31 points); CCE/OCNZ (90 points)

*This plant was, in the latter part of 2017, and in all good faith, submitted and judged as the species Phragmipedium caudatum.   However, two years later when it was exhibited in the NZ National Orchid Expo 2019 (where it won Grand Champion of the Show), the name of the plant was questioned.  After considerable discussion and reference to experts both local and overseas, the consensus was that the plant was in fact the hybrid Phragmipedium Grande.  Under the latter name the plant was again awarded Orchid of the Year for 2019 (see Orchids 2020 Yearbook).
